Weddell and Turner is the brainchild of Helen Adshead and was born out of her frustration with the lack of quality and choice when it came to buying luxury food for people with allergies or who live with restricted diets.
Being allergic to dairy herself, Helen often found that friends and family simply didn’t bother checking ingredients when buying her luxury food on special occasions which meant she often couldn’t eat it. Even when she could eat it she found that the initial taste was often bland, the texture horrid and the after-taste unusual, compared to regular luxury food.
As awareness and availability of gluten-free and dairy-free alternatives have grown, the emphasis in the “free-from” market has been on the replacement of everyday food rather than on the nice-to have treats. That’s when she got the idea to develop a new brand of luxury food and treats presented in beautiful packaging that are suitable for people who live without dairy and gluten but still taste fabulous - and so began the journey of building Weddell and Turner.
